Erase

Alias: E or Delete

Removes selected objects from the drawing.

Description

The Erase command permanently deletes selected objects from the drawing. Objects can be selected before pressing Delete or by running the command first and then selecting. Use Ctrl+Z to undo an accidental erase.

Workflow

Select-first method (quickest):

  1. Select the objects you want to delete.

  2. Press Delete.

Command-first method:

  1. Type E and press Space or Enter.

  2. Select objects: Click the objects to delete, then press Enter to confirm.

Tips

  • Press Ctrl+Z immediately to undo if you erase the wrong objects.

  • Use a selection window (click and drag) to quickly select multiple objects before pressing Delete.

  • Purge removes unused named objects (layers, styles, blocks) rather than drawing entities.
